7 Blu-rays Worth the Upgrade to Dolby Atmos

Dolby Atmos Blu-ray: Mad Max Fury Road

This is the year of Dolby Atmos. It’s not just because we’ve seen more Dolby Atmos-enabled products than ever before, but we’re actually getting the type of content that could make the extra equipment a worthy purchase.

In case you haven’t been following, Dolby Atmos is a sound format that can add a new dimension to your home theater experience. It actually delivers sound from above, so you can experience those birds, planes, helicopters, explosions and other content flying overhead.

To experience Dolby Atmos, you will need an AV receiver that can decode the content, as well as additional speakers. You can opt to mount those speakers to the ceiling, but there are Atmos-enabled speakers that can process the format and project the audio to make it sound like it’s overhead—without it actually being overhead.

The good news is that your old Blu-ray player will support Blu-rays with a Dolby Atmos track. And if you haven’t made the move to a more advanced audio setup yet, there’s no need to hold off on buying the Blu-rays. Without all of the equipment in place, each Dolby Atmos track will default to a Dolby TrueHD mix.

Need a few reasons to buy that new equipment? Take a peek at seven Blu-rays worth the upgrade to Dolby Atmos in our slideshow.
